Celebrating 50 Years!

Protect Yourself!

On September 20th, Glass Jacobson co-hosted its first “Protect Yourself” seminar for Empty Nesters. The seminar was a resounding success, but for those of you who were unable to attend, here are the Top 5 Tips for Retiring & Empty Nester Women:

  1. Women’s Retirement Planning Needs to Look Further Out: Retirement planning is especially important for women.  Because many women take time from careers to care for aging parents or children, social security and pension benefits are often lower than their male counterparts, and yet women generally live longer than men.  So, women often have to stretch limited retirement savings over a longer period.  With this in mind, women need to think about their retirement planning as carrying them over a longer term.
  2. It’s Never too Late to Start Saving: Just because you might be a little further up there in years, you still stand to gain if you start saving now.  For example, if you prudently invest just $2000 at age 50, with a modest year-over-year annual interest rate of 6%, you’ll have $49,345.00 by the time you’re 65!
  3. Know and Protect Your Assets: You know your most common assets: your home, your investment accounts, your valuables.  But do you know how to protect them for yourself and your beneficiaries?  At this state of your life, it is crucial to understand the difference between titling, use of trusts and adding joint owners.  They all have different outcomes for your beneficiaries.
  4. Hormones, Move-On: During this time in their lives, women have had their share of human hormone absorption and flux.  Do yourself a favor and switch to organic milk and meat products.  You don’t need cow and chicken hormones too!
  5. Super-fy your Nutrition: Cruciferous vegetables are the new super food for women’s health at this age.  Work broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and brussels sprouts into your diet.
